Other than the joys of the holiday season that first come to mind – family, feasting, and fete – another aspect of the season I most enjoy is dressing for the occasion. From Christmas to New Year’s, it is the perfect time of year to break out the most luxurious fabrics in your closet. Adding a touch of velvet, sequins, lace, or metallics, absolutely ups the holiday ante.
Over the years, I have had many a friend or family member comment that they could not pull off sequins/metallics/etc. or that they don’t know how to style their [insert seemingly obscure item here]. When I have one show-stopping piece, can I pair it with another? Is velvet something I can pull off? How about metallics? I wanted to feature the elements that seem to stump the population most often over the next few posts so that they can be incorporate into your holiday merriment.
This particular outfit involves not one, but two spectacular pieces of which I cannot get enough. Each could easily carry an outfit on their own when paired with simpler pieces, but by pairing them together, this look takes me to my happy place. This Theory top stopped me in my tracks the first time I saw it, and the jade green lace of the skirt is to die for. Thanks to the keeping most of the outfit neutral in black, the skirt pops, and it doesn’t soar into the land of tacky. These patent leather t-straps also add a elegant, feminine quality that keep the entire outfit in balance.
