4 EASY WAYS TO DRESS UP YOUR LBD

I’m always on the hunt for a great LBD..a girl really can never have too many.

While a simple LBD allows you to dress up or down in 1,000 different ways with layering and accessories, some of my personal LBD favorites include a little something extra: lace details, embroidered texture, and now, this seasonally-appropriate fringe number.

When you’re in a pinch, I bet the one thing you definitely have hanging in your closet is a trusty LBD. But all too often timeless and versatile pieces such as these do not get nearly enough play! The problem? Having too many options in styling them often feels like having none at all.

Well get ready to put that little black stunner back into rotation! With a few more holiday gatherings and NYE right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to dust off that LBD. I’ve rounded up my four favorite ideas to breathe some life into that little black number you haven’t thought about in months.

Layer, layer, layer – Under or over, there are so many looks to be had with an LBD front and center. Add a turtleneck or button-down under a sheath dress for a lady-like look or a bright sweater over your dress to let it pose as a skirt. What about a killer cropped leather jacket? Or a tailored blazer? Another LBD I’ll be trying on for size is this pretty For Love & Lemons frock, paired with minimalist bracelets, and OTK boots.

Accessories are key – From your handbag choice to the shoes you step into, each directly impacts the final product and overall aesthetic. Are you going for chic and effortless or polished and put together? Zero in on the vibe you’re going for and keep it in mind as you select each item.

At a loss for simple ways to pull it all together? What about a statement necklace? I just scooped up this Urban Outfitters bauble that pretties up any simple black ensemble. Lace up heels are another one of my favorite ways to add femininity to any outfit right now, and these Nastygal ones are surprisingly comfortable. Completely in love with the tassel tie detail in the back. A pair of leopard heels can also do wonders for an otherwise simple outfit, as can tossing on a cape or grabbing a patterned clutch as you head out the door.

Play with color – Most of my holiday looks have been a bit more toned down this year compared to years past, but the one thing that remains is the need to add at least a pop of color here and there. While an LBD is the ultimate in versatility – carrying you through just about any situation from a day at the office to a night on the town (and everything in between) – it also provides a blank slate for you to decorate as much (or as little) as you like. Put the finishing touches on your look with a hint of color: This army green topper is still minimalist and subdued, but it’s also a great juxtaposition thanks to its boxy shape that offsets the elegance of the dress and the shoes.

Pay attention to your LBD details – Play with the what your dress naturally brings to the table. Does it have a gorgeous neckline or a killer scoop back? If the dress can hold it’s own, consider pulling it all together with bold make up — a little winged liner or a bright pout. This little boat neck stunner is straight out out Breakfast at Tiffany’s and doesn’t need much other than a great heel and a few bracelets.
