I’ve never really been pink kind of gal.
While I’ve always had a love for especially high heels (somehow I’m more apt to trip over my own feet in flats than 4 inch heels..make sense of that), I’ve never been what you would categorize as a girly-girl. There’s leather with my lace, lots of menswear and distressed denim, and the charm of overly romantic gestures is and will forever be completely lost on me. For most, the epitome of my non- girly-girl nature is my aversion to the color pink.
My tomboy side reared it’s head at about age five, when my favorite color changed from red to green and I began to find Inspector Gadget so much cooler than My Little Pony. Then again, maybe it was always my nature because you couldn’t even have paid me to play with a doll (unless it was a Barbie because HELLO, you could dress her up).
But it is the new year after all, and in the spirit of fresh starts, I’m giving a few new things a spin.
Despite my general disdain for most pink articles of clothing, I really love the dusty mauve color of this Urban Outfitters dress. The texture is especially gorgeous, not to mention the uber-flattering neckline, so I found myself excited to give this little pink number a whirl. I’m about two shades away from clinical diagnosis as an albino these days, so I typically steer clear of shades this light that may wash me out. I especially have to be wary of shades in the beige, nude, & pastel families. But magically, this one did not. If you’re as fair as I am, you can also try adding a bold lip (this Smashbox shade is one of my favorites) to ensure no one confuses you with Casper.
I also had fun repurposing this dress as a top. It’s a trick I’ve used since high school to freshen up a dress or give it more wear. Especially when you have a dress with a killer back like this, it feels like a bit of a no brainer.
So buckle your seat belts friends, because I just bought a, gulp..bubble gum pink sweater. Mind you, it’s awesomely boxy, with great texture, but hey, it’s pink. I suppose this is the exact reason why someone coined that pesky ‘never say never’ phrase (and if I lived in a 90s romcom, this is the point in the show when some mean girl would come bitchily throw my pink-aversion in my face). I’m now considering all sartorial choices well within the realm of possibility. All bets are off.
